Tire Buying
What does /SL or /XL mean at the end of the tire size?
SL stands for “Standard Load.” The words “Standard Load” will be stamped somewhere on the sidewall of the tire. XL means “Extra Load.” Tires with an XL designation can carry more weight than tires without the designation. The XL designation is listed at the end of the tire size (for example, 225/40ZR18/XL).
What is the proper air pressure for my tires?
Even though the same tire may be applicable across multiple vehicles, the recommended air pressure may be different in each application. The first place to look for the correct air pressure for your specific tires is in your vehicle owner’s manual. Correct air pressure should also be listed on a placard on the car in frame of the driver’s door.
